Measuring blood pressure in young children is complicated, and improper measurement will result in incorrect readings. Since essential hypertension is rare in preadolescents, it is always advisable to look for the cause of a secondary form. The principles of pharmacotherapy for arterial hypertension are similar in children and adults. The presentation provides an overview of the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of arterial hypertension in children, with reference to the new European guidelines.
