Adolescent Medicine: When eating (habits?) challenges the doctor’s thinking
Adolescent Medicine: When eating (habits?) challenges the doctor’s thinking
“I want to eat, but I just can’t, my tummy hurts”. Eating disorders are challenging not only for patients and their families, but also for medical professionals. Although the majority of professionals are well aware of more traditional eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, atypical eating disorders often lead to many doctor appointments before given a meaningful diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In this lecture, we present the knowledge for appropriately diagnosing and managing children and adolescents with atypical eating disorders. We illustrate the key issues with short patient stories, and we highlight your role as paediatrician in treating these children and adolescents successfully.
